In that time small first innings totals have been defended much more successfully in Australia than they have been in New Zealand. So we took a look at data just from completed ODIs in New Zealand and Australia for the past 10 years. Of course, these are general results, the chances of a team successfully defending a first innings total, vary depending strength of opposition, conditions, size of boundaries, etc. Scores of 260-279 have been successful 55.8 per cent of the time, but anything less than 260 and teams have gone on to lose more often than they win. In fact any score over 280 is a good chance of being a winning one - scores of 280-299 are successful 70.9 per cent of the time.īut the data also shows just how vital an extra 20-30 runs can be at the end of an innings. ![]()
